drawImage(bark, -5, -50, 10, 50); Here, we have replaced the previous call to fillRect with a simple routine to display our bark image as the new trunk for our tree Although the image is a subtle replacement, it provides more texture to our display Note that in this call, we are specifying an x, y, width, and height argument in addition to the image itself This option will scale the image to fit into the 10 50 pixel space that we have allocated for our trunk We could also have passed in source dimensions to have more control over the clipping area of the incoming image to be displayed As you can see in Figure 2-12, the change to the appearance of our trunk is only slightly different from the filled rectangle we used before..

The Cairngorm framework is an event pattern framework that allows for a consistent method of calling and handling faults and the return of data from the server. The method utilized for calling the server from Flex can be RemoteObject, WebService, or HTTPService calls (as discussed in 6). In most of the applications I have built, I have created RemoteObjects to work with Cairngorm service locators. RemoteObjects send binary data to the server, and that data is processed by the AMF gateway and serialized into value objects that Spring services use. Once Cairngorm objects have been created to make a call, a view that needs data from the server just needs to code a few of steps to retrieve that data. The view creates an event specific to the type of call it wants to make. When it creates the event, it passes any parameters/variables required to the new event object. Finally, the view uses a Cairngorm object to dispatch the event, as in the following example of getting a list of contacts from the Spring service: var event : GetContactsEvent = new GetContactsEvent(); CairngormEventDispatcher.getInstance().dispatchEvent( event ); The key to ensuring that the call to the server works properly is creating and setting up the call within the Cairngorm framework. There are seven basics steps to do so: 1. Ensure the (Java) service is defined in WEB-INF\flex\remoting-config.xml. 2. Ensure the service is defined in Services.mxml.

There are two main approaches to checking that your coding style matches the Drupal coding standards: one uses a Perl script and the other, a contributed module.

Not satisfied with the tree trunk Well, neither are we. Let s take another approach to drawing our tree trunk that uses a little more finesse: gradients. Gradients allow you to apply a gradual algorithmic sampling of colors as either a stroke or fill style, just like the patterns were applied in the last section. Creating gradients requires a three-step process: 1. 2. 3. Create the gradient object itself. Apply color stops to the gradient object, signaling changes in color along the transition. Set the gradient as either a fillStyle or a strokeStyle on the context.

Inside the scripts directory of your Drupal root directory, you ll find a Perl script named code-style.pl, which checks your Drupal coding style. Here s how to use it. First, change the permissions in order to make the file executable; otherwise, you ll get a Permission denied error. This can be done from the command line using chmod as follows: $ cd scripts $ ls -l | grep code-style -rw-r--r-- 1 jvandyk jvandyk $ chmod u+x code-style.pl $ ls -l | grep code-style -rwxr--r-- 1 jvandyk jvandyk
